Melati and Isabel Wijsen, two teenage girls from Bali, Indonesia, decided in 2013 that it was time for their government to help clean up the island with a ban on the use of plastic bags. It took a lot, from petitions to a even hunger strike, but the girls persevered and managed to get the island’s governor to issue a complete ban on plastic bags by 2018.
